What Is Concierge Counseling? How It Works and Who It’s For
Concierge counseling offers a more flexible and personalized approach to traditional counseling. Rather than fitting every client into the same schedule and session structure, I believe counseling should adapt to the individual and what is happening in their life.
For people with demanding careers, busy schedules, frequent travel, or a need for greater flexibility, the traditional weekly therapy model may not always be practical.
I’ll explain what concierge counseling is, how it works, and who I believe can benefit most from this approach.

What Is Concierge Counseling?

Concierge counseling is a more personalized and flexible approach to mental health support that provides greater access to your therapist than traditional counseling typically allows. Depending on the arrangement, this may include flexible scheduling, longer or more frequent sessions, virtual appointments, and additional support between sessions.
I think of it as counseling that is designed around the individual rather than asking every client to fit into the same weekly appointment structure.
For example, a business owner with an unpredictable schedule may need more flexibility around appointment times. Someone going through a difficult period may benefit from longer or more frequent sessions. Others may simply value having a more personal relationship with their therapist and greater continuity of care.
Concierge counseling doesn’t mean being able to contact your therapist at any hour or replacing emergency mental health services. Instead, I see it as a way to create a counseling relationship that better reflects your lifestyle, circumstances, and individual needs.
How Does Concierge Counseling Work?
Concierge counseling works by creating a more flexible and personalized relationship between you and your therapist. The exact arrangement varies from person to person.
Flexible Scheduling
One of the biggest advantages of concierge counseling is having more flexibility around appointments. If you are an executive, business owner, medical professional, frequent traveler, or simply have an unpredictable schedule, committing to the same time every week can be difficult.
I believe counseling should work with your life rather than become another appointment you are constantly trying to rearrange.
Direct Access to Your Counselor
Depending on the arrangement, concierge counseling can also provide greater access to your counselor outside of scheduled sessions.
This might include appropriate communication between appointments when you have a question, need additional support, or want to discuss something before your next session.
This doesn’t mean unlimited 24/7 access, and concierge counseling is not a replacement for emergency or crisis services. I always believe expectations and boundaries should be clear from the beginning.
Longer or More Frequent Sessions
A standard therapy session isn’t always the right fit for every situation. There may be times when a longer session gives us the space to properly work through an important issue without feeling rushed.
There may also be periods when meeting more frequently makes sense. I can adjust the frequency or length of sessions when appropriate rather than automatically relying on the same schedule week after week.
Support Between Sessions
A lot can happen between counseling appointments. You may have an important conversation with your spouse, experience a stressful situation at work, or recognize a pattern we have been discussing together.
Depending on your concierge counseling arrangement, there may be opportunities for additional support or communication between sessions. I want the work we do together to carry over into your everyday life, not simply end when you leave the session.

Both approaches provide professional mental health support, but concierge counseling typically offers more flexibility, access, and personalization.

What Are the Benefits of Concierge Counseling?
The main benefit of concierge counseling is that it gives me more freedom to tailor the counseling experience around the individual. Everyone has different needs, schedules, challenges, and goals, so I don’t believe the same approach will work equally well for everyone.
More Personalized Care
I want to understand the person, not just the problem that brought them to counseling. Concierge counseling gives me the opportunity to consider your lifestyle, relationships, career, responsibilities, and goals when deciding how we work together.
Greater Flexibility
Life doesn’t always cooperate with a fixed weekly appointment. With concierge counseling, there can be greater flexibility around scheduling, session frequency, and session length. This can make counseling much easier to maintain when work, travel, or family responsibilities change from week to week.
Consistent Support
There may be times when you need more support than others. Rather than being locked into the same schedule regardless of what is happening, concierge counseling can allow us to adjust the level of support when appropriate.
Easier Access When You Need It
Sometimes something happens between appointments that you don’t want to wait a week or two to discuss. Depending on our arrangement, concierge counseling may provide greater access and communication between sessions.
Can You Use Concierge Counseling Online?

Yes, concierge counseling can often be provided online, making it a convenient option for people with busy schedules, frequent travel, or limited time to attend appointments in person.
I find online sessions can also make it easier to maintain consistency. You can speak with your therapist from your home, office, or another private location without adding travel time to your day.
However, therapists must follow licensing requirements based on where the client is physically located at the time of the session. Because these rules can vary by state, I always confirm whether I’m able to provide online counseling based on your location before we begin.
How Much Does Concierge Counseling Cost?
The cost of concierge counseling can vary depending on the therapist, session length, level of access, and type of support you need.
I’ve put together a separate guide that breaks down typical pricing, what can affect the cost, and what you can expect to pay.
