Therapy for Christian Leaders
Helping Christian men to escape their cages and become the lions God created them to be
The Lion Counseling Approach to Therapy for Christian Leaders
With over 15 years of experience and more than 15,000 therapy sessions, Mark Odland brings a depth of perspective shaped by both clinical work and real-world leadership. Before founding Lion Counseling, Mark served in ministry and understands firsthand the tension Christian leaders face as they carry responsibility for others while quietly bearing their own burdens.
Lion Counseling was built in response to a growing gap between modern psychology and matters of faith, meaning, and the soul. This work is not about surface-level advice or symptom management – it is about helping men address the deeper emotional and spiritual roots that keep them stuck, strained, or silently burning out.
Mark’s background as a Certified EMDR Therapist informs the clinical framework used across the Lion Counseling team, helping clients work through unresolved stress, loss, burnout, and fear that may be limiting their leadership and personal life. Today, Mark primarily works with executives and entrepreneurs, while trusted counselors at Lion carry this approach forward – meeting Christian leaders where they are and guiding them toward clarity, steadiness, and renewal. Like Mark, they have a passion for helping men heal, succeed, and thrive. Their combined resumes include unique experiences and roles like husband, father, experienced addiction coach, author, pastor, and former NFL athlete.
Understanding the Unique Challenges Christian Leaders Face
Leading as a Christian is not only about faithfulness or success. It often means carrying spiritual responsibility, moral authority, and relational expectations while navigating the real pressures of leadership. Whether you’re serving in ministry, leading a faith-based organization, or guiding others through values-driven work, the weight can be significant – and rarely shared.

At Lion Counseling, we work with Christian leaders across the U.S. who often carry these responsibilities quietly, finding themselves isolated, stretched thin, or worn down over time. Our approach is designed to meet leaders where they are – offering support that integrates faith, emotional health, and practical leadership care. Rather than a one-size-fits-all model, our team provides different kinds of support depending on what will be most helpful right now, helping Christian leaders remain grounded, effective, and aligned in both calling and life.
A Two-Path Framework for Christian Leaders
A Team Built for Shepherds, Builders, and Christian Leaders
Christian leaders don’t all need the same kind of support at the same time. Some are carrying unresolved stress, grief, or past experiences that quietly shape how they lead, decide, and relate. Others need structure, accountability, or practical rhythms to regain steadiness and clarity. No single person excels at all of it—and wise leaders understand that leadership was never meant to be carried alone.
That’s why Lion Counseling was intentionally built as a team-based practice, led by Mark Odland, where distinct forms of expertise work together—clearly defined, not interchangeable.
Mark serves as the clinical architect of the practice, setting the depth, standards, and direction of care. Before founding Lion Counseling, Mark served in ministry and has spent years walking alongside leaders who carry responsibility for others while often neglecting their own inner life. Beyond his clinical work, Mark has led teams, made difficult decisions, navigated conflict, and understands the quiet weight that comes with being the one others look to when clarity, steadiness, or answers are expected.
Around that foundation, Mark has designed a team approach to support Christian leaders at different points in their calling:
Zack Carter works with men who need structure, accountability, and practical tools to stabilize leadership and daily rhythms. His background in cognitive-behavioral therapy and addiction recovery is especially helpful for leaders facing burnout, emotional exhaustion, unhealthy coping patterns, or discipline breakdowns that undermine consistency and integrity.
Together, we support men not only as leaders, but as husbands, fathers, and people of faith—men whose responsibility does not switch off when the day ends.
Rather than forcing every leader into a single model, we help each man engage the kind of work that fits where he is now—whether that is deeper therapeutic work, structured accountability, or performance-focused coaching—and move forward with clarity, wisdom, and support.
Our Approach to Therapy for Christian Leaders
Christian leaders rarely struggle because they lack discipline, intelligence, or commitment. More often, the strain comes from carrying sustained responsibility – spiritual authority, care for others, difficult decisions, and constant expectations – without margin or a safe place to process the internal pressure that builds over time.
Leadership in the church and Christian organizations requires ongoing discernment, endurance, and emotional containment. When that pressure goes unaddressed, it can quietly erode clarity, presence, and resilience – even in leaders who appear faithful and steady on the outside.
At Lion Counseling, we support Christian leaders through a clear and intentional pathway model, designed to meet men where they are and help them move forward with integrity, emotional steadiness, and long-term sustainability.
This work is guided by Mark Odland, Founder of Lion Counseling and a Certified EMDR Therapist with over 15 years of clinical experience and more than 15,000 sessions with men carrying significant responsibility. Before building his clinical practice, Mark served in ministry and understands the unique weight of spiritual leadership, discernment, and being the one others look to when answers are expected. As the clinical architect of the practice, he sets the depth, standards, and direction of care.
From that foundation, Christian leaders are supported through one of three distinct but complementary paths, based on where pressure is showing up most and what kind of support will be most effective right now.
“Many men move between these pathways over time, depending on where they are in their journey.”
Who Can Benefit?
Therapy for Christian Leaders is Ideal for Men Who:
The Benefits of Counseling for Christian Leaders
In lives shaped by leadership and calling, the line between service and personal life can quietly disappear. Christian leaders often carry long hours, constant availability, and the weight of spiritual responsibility for others. Rest can feel indulgent, and boundaries can feel unfaithful. Over time, the very traits that sustain ministry or leadership – self-sacrifice, vigilance, and endurance – can begin to strain marriage, family, and inner life.
Support for Christian leaders provides a confidential space to slow down and reflect on these pressures, helping men across the U.S. reconnect with their values, restore balance, and lead from a place of steadiness rather than depletion.
The Benefits of Counseling for Christian Leaders
Lion Counseling is a team-based practice designed to support Christian leaders who carry real responsibility and feel the weight of it internally. Under the clinical leadership of Mark Odland, our counselors work from a shared framework that integrates emotional health, faith, and practical leadership demands. Counseling for Christian leaders offers several key benefits:
Greater Emotional and Spiritual Awareness: Developing a clearer understanding of your internal world—emotions, stress responses, and spiritual struggles—and how they shape your leadership, decision-making, and relationships.
Stronger Relationships and Ministry Impact: Learning how to engage others with steadiness, humility, and emotional clarity, strengthening marriages, families, staff relationships, and the people you serve.
Healthier Stress and Pressure Management: Building practical tools to manage responsibility and expectations without burning out, shutting down emotionally, or carrying the weight alone.
Renewed Clarity, Purpose, and Direction: Reducing internal noise and unresolved emotional strain so you can lead with wisdom, confidence, and a grounded sense of calling.
