As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I’ve provided hundreds of hours of marriage counseling to successful men and their wives. And as a someone married for 20 years with 4 children, my knowledge isn’t only theoretical. I’ve lived it. I know first-hand the challenges of balancing work and family life, and that even good marriages require hard work to not only survive, but thrive. Whether your marriage is on life-support, or you’re just looking for a tune-up, I’m hear to help.

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that you’re feeling hurt, misunderstood, discouraged, and alone. You might even feel angry and resentful. Sure, you have your flaws. But you’re a hard-worker, a loving father, a good provider, and a decent man. Is it too much to ask to come home to a peaceful home where you feel supported, loved, and respected?

If so, you’re not alone with these feelings. And as discouraged as you might be, there is hope. Not just the blind-faith kind of hope, but hope that is rooted in a research-proven process that can help you and your wife improve communication, increase understanding, renew intimacy, rebuild trust, and re-discover why you fell in love in the first place. A process that can teach you the skills necessary to help you meet her half-way, while at the same time establishing reasonable boundaries for how you deserve to be treated. There’s reason for you to be hopeful, because these things are grounded in methods that work. And if you also happen draw hope from your faith in God, I can include that in the process as well. As an experienced faith-based counselor, I’d be happy to discuss your issues from a Biblical worldview, incorporate scripture, and even pray with you, trusting that as the Great Counselor, the Holy Spirit, will lead and guide us along the way.

These days we often hear of trying to achieve a “balanced life.” And while I get where they’re coming from, I know that the idea of “balance” is somewhat overused because if you’re a business leader or hard-working professional, you’re not working a regular 9-5 kind of job. If you’re in this category, you might not totally feel like a “caged lion,” because in some ways you left the cage a long time ago. You already know how to take risks, compete and conquer. You’ve put in the work and achieved success. If anything, you might be more like a “rogue lion,” having left the pride to forge a new path. And along the way you’ve discovered the secret that the goal is not money itself… it’s the thrill of the competition and the freedom that money provides… freedom to pursue things you love.

While the chase will always be fun, it’s completely natural for a successful man’s thoughts to shift towards cultivating his passions, strengthening his marriage, and leaving a legacy. As an intelligent, hard-working, and resourceful man, you’ve probably already made strides in this area. But as you know, wives and children are not “yes men” like at the office. Relationships are complex, and the very traits that help men conquer at work don’t always work on the homefront.

In my professional experience, a man who is admired and respected in public often has his flaws and vulnerabilities painfully exposed at home. While defensiveness, anger, and hurt are natural responses to these things, I encourage successful men to walk towards the pain and do the deep emotional work that needs to be done.Today, you may be at the crossroads. If you’re marriage is okay, you can settle for mediocrity or put in the work to make it great. And if you’re marriage is on life support… you can take the bait and walk down paths of destruction through anger, resentment, addiction, and infidelity. Or, you can man up and get the support you need to save your marriage and by extension, your family. You may not be ready for this kind of commitment. But if you’re willing to step into the fray and face the abyss, I’d be honored to help you escape the cage and become the LION God created you to be.
